Delight for football academy boys as they hit a sensational six

-

Cambuslang Football Academy travelled up to Bearsden on Saturday morning where they were up against Baljaffray BC.

There was much doubt before travelling whether the game would go ahead but the game kicked off. Cambuslang, in the first half, had to play against the wind.

Cambuslang started the game brighter and were moving the ball well. The first big chance of the game fell to Cambuslang when some good play down the left-hand side between Ross Myatt and Seumas MacPhee resulted in a MacPhee cross which went all the way to the back post area.

From six yards out, the ball fell to Tawse but power over accuracy put it over the bar. Baljaffray got their wake up call from that, however it was Cambuslang who kept piling the pressure and after 24 minutes they took the lead as a neat ball played through to the on-running Stuart Tawse, who skipped by the Baljaffray left-back and he rounded the keeper to tap the ball home to make it 1-0 to Cambuslang.

Baljaffray never really got themselves lifted and Cambuslang started to dominate the possession and spread some great passes and it wasn’t long before Stuart Tawse put the ball in the net again.

After 32 minutes early substitute Stephen McKeown held up the ball well and turned his defender and played a cracking ball through for Tawse to run onto and calmly place the ball by the keeper and into the bottom right of the net.

With a change of tactics for the second half, Cambuslang were now playing with the wind and started piling more pressure on the Baljaffray defence and Tawse completed his hat- trick. It came from a Baljaffray corner which was cleared to Ciaran Scott. He played the ball to Tawse who ran by two defenders and placed it beyond the goalkeeper’s reach to collect his third goal and to confirm Cambuslang were taking the points.

It became a bit of one-way traffic after that with a fourth goal being added after 53 minutes when Baljaffray failed to deal with a corner and at the third attempt of trying to put it into the net, central defender Adam Bryson blasted home to make it 4-0.

Some three minutes later, Bryson went on a run and played a ball through with the Baljaffray defence standing and claiming for offside on both Scott and McKeown.

Neither moved and Bryson decided to chase after the ball and put it through the goalkeeper to make it 5-0.

The scoring didn’t stop there with the weather picking up and the conditions becoming really bad, and the final attack of the game before play was stopped saw a ball go through the middle and for left midfielder Scott to pass it beyond the keeper into the bottom right hand side of the net to make it 6-0 and finish off the game.

Cambuslang man of the match was Stuart Tawse
