Win ‘shows togetherness’ of Town squad

-

PAUL McManus praised the togetherness of his Runcorn Town squad following their 1-0 victory at Winsford United on Saturday.

Runcorn were reduced to 10-men early in the second-half following the dismissal of Owen Dursley for foul language while goalkeeper Adam Reid also saved a penalty.

Despite the deficit in numbers, Dave Forbes’s seventh goal in Town’s last nine games allowed McManus’s side to bounce back from their heavy 4-0 defeat to high-flying Bootle in midweek.

The win also moved Runcorn into the top-half of the NWCFL Premier Division.

“I’m made up for the lads after today’s result,” McManus said afterwards.

“It shows the dogged determination after being down to 10 men again and pushing forward for the win. We had luck today which I feel like we have missed sometimes this season as they missed a penalty, so I was made up with that.

“To stick together, work hard and get a fantastically worked goal late on was great and like I say, it’s a massive credit to what a great squad togetherness we have.”

Runcorn were scheduled to visit Hanley Town in midweek but the game was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

McManus’s side face three games in a week starting on Saturday with a trip to Irlam before returning to the Viridor Community Stadium for the first time since December in the midweek visit of Avro.

Town then finish the month by hosting Barnoldswick.

Runcorn will be hoping the end their miserly home form during this spell after failing to win a game at the Viridor since August.
