Connectors boost social lives

-

A SERVICE has been launched in Halton to connect like-minds with each other.

Halton Council’s ‘Community Connectors’ team was set up to make it easier for residents to make friends and boost their social life.

The initiative involves meeting with groups and individuals and signposting them to services that might be able to help as well or offer expert advice.

A council spokesman said the team members will also match vulnerable and socially isolated residents with a Community Connector to boost confidence, inclusion and independence.

Projects are planned for Runcorn and Widnes in coming months.

The local authority spokesman said council officers Maddie Powell and Vicky Waller have an excellent knowledge of the borough including social groups, support services and charities.

He said Community Connectors will provide support to help ● residents recognise what they want to do, and how the team can help to achieve it.

Similar schemes operate in Sefton, Blackpool, Burnley and other places.

Cllr Marie Wright (health and wellbeing) said: “They will work alongside the community to help people build skills and conquer those things that have been standing in people’s way.

“The team is currently working as a 12-month pilot and its work will be focused in building up community connections in Runcorn electoral wards Halton Lea and Grange, and Widnes electoral wards Kingsway and Appleton.

“People who receive the service must be over the age of 18.”
