Tuesday takes top title at Ormiston Academies group

AWIDNES headteache­r has been appointed as the regional director of a group of academies across England.

Tuesday Humby is executive principal of Ormiston Chadwick Academy (OCA) on Liverpool Road.

She will now be also responsibl­e for nine schools as part of the Ormiston Academies Trust’s (OAT) newly created North region and help to drive continued improvemen­t.

Mrs Humby will also provide high-level support and guidance.

It was previously known as the Central Area and includes both OCA in Widnes and Ormiston Bolingbrok­e Academy in Runcorn.

Other schools as part of the new region include ones in Tunstall, Ilkeston, Grimsby, and Stoke-onTrent.

Mrs Humby will take on her new position as regional director alongside her current role at OCA. ●

She said: “I have been working closely with OAT in my capacity as principal at Ormiston Chadwick Academy and have seen first-hand the benefits of the support and expertise that the trust provides to all of the academies in the OAT family.

“I am now delighted to be taking on my new role as regional director for the North, supporting academies across the region – helping to drive continued improvemen­t and academic success for all the students we serve.”

Under Mrs Humby’s leadership OCA – which rose from the ashes of The Bankfield – has gone from strength to strength and is now ranked one of the top 100 schools in the country and the fifth highest performing school in the North West.

An OAT spokesman said: “Tuesday holds a master’s degree in both child law and educationa­l leadership management, is a qualified SENCO and an Ofsted inspector, and brings a wealth of expertise on school improvemen­t and developmen­t to the role.

“With significan­t experience of school leadership at all levels, Tuesday also continues to be an active practition­er in the classroom, teaching across a range of subjects.

“Tuesday has a strong interest in developing effective leadership teams and is passionate about teaching, learning and profession­al developmen­t.

“Her research interests include school improvemen­t in areas of socioecono­mic disadvanta­ge and promoting social mobility, which is very much in line with OAT’s long-standing commitment to supporting disadvanta­ged students and tackling the toughest challenges in education.”

The appointmen­t involves OAT further bolstering its strong central team after another successful summer with students across the network ● celebratin­g excellent GCSE and A-level results.

OAT has been sponsoring primary and secondary academies across the country since 2008 and champions the excellent academic achievemen­t and all-round developmen­t of more than 26,000 young people it serves.

OAT interim chief executive Nick Hudson said: “Tuesday Humby is a fan- tastic addition to the OAT team, she has a proven track record of delivering far-reaching school improvemen­t at Ormiston Chadwick, as well as demonstrat­ing the talent, drive and determinat­ion to succeed that we look for in leaders across the trust.

“The knowledge and experience she brings will help to drive further improvemen­t and success in our academies, both in the North, and across the trust.

“I look forward to working closely with Tuesday and the other regional directors to ensure that more children and young people can benefit from the high quality of education that OAT offers across our network and achieve their full potential.”
