UKIP: We’re staying strong
A UKIP chief in Halton has vowed the party will remain strong in the borough despite experiencing a substantial fall in votes.
Glyn Redican came third overall in last week’s contest with 1,488 votes.
But in 2015, he attracted 6,333 votes from the Halton electorate and was fewer than 2,000 behind the Conservative candidate on that occasion.
Chairman of UKIP Runcorn Philip Busow said the result was a ‘big disappointment’ for the party in the borough.
But he said that the it was ‘always down to be a two-horse race’ between Labour and the Conservatives.
He said: “Given the Labour Christmas tree manifesto, the only thing they did not promise was to pay off people’s credit cards.
“Coupled with tactical voting by the still bitter Remainers who still refuse to accept a democratic vote, it was no surprise Labour had a good day and are celebrating losing their third General Election in a row.
“UKIP will remain strong in Halton ● despite the poor result this time around.”
Mr Busow said the party will continue its campaign to have councillors elected in 2018.
He added: “Finally, I would like to thank all who voted for Glyn Redican who was proud to represent you and I can assure you we will continue to fight on your behalf.”
