Fireflys sign record deal with top label

-

INDIE veterans The Fireflys from Runcorn have signed a record deal with Strawberry Moon Records. The band have been working on their as-yet-untitled fifth LP at Industrial Studios in Runcorn, and having finished their lead single Grace decided to get in touch with the innovative label about the possibility of a deal.

A spokesman for the group said Strawberry Moon records has already established itself as a label with a fresh approach to upcoming artists and releasing music, and with an outlook close to The Fireflys’ of wanting to ‘make music that really means something’, that lead singer Lee Wylding was certain that Industrial Studios was a perfect fit for the bands music. The label replied and offered the band a deal.

James Morris, Strawberry Moon managing director, said: “This band is a reminder of why I work in this industry, after listening to 100s of songs in one day all of a sudden one caught my ears and excited me – I immediately took the song to my colleagues and we all agreed it was a band we had to work with.”

Lee from the band said: “Strawberry Moon are one of those labels that comes around once in a blue moon – their ethos, roster and approach to the music industry is both refreshing and exciting.

“With the bands they have, and the music they’re releasing – they remind me of Alan McGee’s Creation label.”

He added: “To say we are proud would be an understatement”.

The Fireflys have released their entire back catalogue on the band’s own label imprint over the last six years ‘Canadia Records’ so this will mark the first time in the band’s decade-long history that they have put pen to paper with a record label that was not their own.

Strawberry Moon Records will be releasing the single Grace in the coming months.

The track was premiered worldwide on MUTV earlier in March.

The band will play Bowlers Arena Manchester on May 27 as part of Kieran Farrell’s ‘The Young Kings’ boxing exhibition and will return to The Brindley Theatre in Runcorn on October 27.
