Ainsworth does show his worth

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

In Division Two, Widnes Cricket Club at home to the Goldmine saw the visitors’ Peter Mullally and Sean Bell take the first two games.

Billy Cain recovered a point for the Cricket Club, only to see Sean Bell & John Taylor take the next game for the Goldmine. The Cricket Club responded with two in a row from Rob Morris & K Baxter and Dean Morris & Billy Cain to level the score. At this point the Goldmine surged ahead, taking the final three games and the match through, Barry Noonan (17 darts), Tim Hunt and John Taylor.

The Birchfield at home to the Cricketers Arms took the first game through Johnny Leather.

Graham Fenney then levelled for the Cricketers Arms.

The Birchfield went ahead through Alan Rigby, but parity was soon restored with a win from the Cricketers Arms’ opening pair, Graham Fenney & Brian Dwyer. Successes from Brian Mercer & Tony Ainsworth and Jimmy Rawlinson & Gary Bate gave the Cricketers Arms a good lead. However, the Birchfield were not for giving up as Matty Fisher and Trevor Chadwick levelled matters at 4-4. Tony Ainsworth then took the final game and the clash for the Cricketers Arms.

The Mersey Hotel at home to Hough Green SC opened with a hard fought contest. Dan Cotterill left Andy McIntosh one dart to draw the game, which he did. However, he then left his opponent Cotterill two darts to win or three to draw, which again was drawn causing a third restart.

At the third time of asking, McIntosh landed the first point of the match. The Mersey’s Paul Cotty (13 darts) levelled before Ray Cowley took the Mersey ahead.

Hough Green levelled through Andy McIntosh & Barry Sefton. Then a further win from Tony Barker & Dave McIntosh gave them the lead. Parity was restored with a win from the Mersey’s Paul Cotty & Rob Cotty. A further two wins from John Cotty and Rob Cotty ensured the Mersey’s victory. Keith Glover won the final game for Hough Green.
