Exciting contests as teams battle in semi-finals of Tommy Magee Cup

ON Monday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Tommy Magee Cup semi-finals – split into two halves – were played.

In the top half of the draw, the Majors Arms hosted the clash between Mill Brow SC and Widnes Bowling Club.

The Brow took the first three games through Dave Jones, Glynn Owen and Chris Taylor.

The Bowler fought back, levelling the score with three of their own via Dave Gerrard & Mark Smith, Tex Bowles & Tommy Robertson and Joe Batty & Scott Grady (19 darts.

The Mill Brow then rallied, taking two games to secure the contest through Chris Bright and Carl Hackney.

In what was merely a consolatio­n, Scott Grady won the final game for the Bowler.

At Mill Brow SC, the Wellington faced off against Halton Stadium.

The Wellington claimed an early lead through Anthony Hall and Terry Roach.

The Stadium recovered two games with wins from John Bowles (15 darts & a 114 checkout) and opening pair Kenny Murphy & Alan Clark (19 darts).

Ste Whitfield & Terry Roach took the Wellington into the lead, but this was short-lived as the Stadium levelled via John Bowles & Eddie Dootson (15 darts) and went ahead through Kenny Murphy.

Ste Whitfield (18 darts) secured the penultimat­e game to level the score at 4-4.

Joe Kelly (180) then took the final game and the match for the Stadium.

In the bottom half of the semi-finals, Mersey Hotel were up against Widnes RUFC with Widnes Bowling Club the venue.

The Mersey Hotel took the first game through Rob Cotty. Sean Reid then levelled for the Wids. The Mersey came back with two in a row from Roy Caldwell and opening pair, John Cotty & Lisa Cotty.

The Wids were equally determined as they brought home the next two games via Sean Reid & Paul Murty and Andy Griffiths & James Holden.

A further win apiece from the Mersey’s Ray Cowley and the Wids’ Paul Murty kept the scores level.

Andy Griffiths then took the final game and the match for Widnes RUFC.

In the final semi-final encounter, the Majors Arms and Moorfield SSC locked horns at Halton Stadium.

The Majors conceded the first game to the Moorfield’s Dean Morris.

Danny Wood then levelled for the Majors. At this point, the Moorfield SSC took full command winning the next five games through Scott Byrne, Scott Byrne & Adam Mellor, Stu Sadler & Paul Woodward, Danny Mellor & Dean Morris and Adam Mellor.

This was enough to take the Moorfield through to the next round, and was no consolatio­n to the Majors as Dave Sutton won the final game of the evening to the see the final scoreline of 6-2 to Moorfield.
