Police appeal after women ‘touched’ on Widnes train
AN IMAGE has been released of a man police want to speak to after two women were inappropriately touched on a train as it travelled towards Widnes.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers would like to talk to the man in the CCTV still who they believe may have information in connection with the alleged incident, which took place on Wednesday, May 4, at 7.49pm.
A BTP spokeswoman said two women, travelling separately in the same carriage, were approached by a man who touched them ‘inappropriately’ on a Northern service from Warrington Central to Liverpool Lime Street.
PC John Thwaite from BTP said that a man was ejected from the train by other passengers in Widnes after they came to the womens’ aid following the indecent advances.
PC Thwaite added: “A man boarded the train at Warrington and sat next to one of the women and began to touch her inappropriately.
“He then attempted to touch another woman who was also travelling alone.
“She had to physically fend him off which caught the attention of other passengers.
“They came to the womens’ aid and ejected the man from the train at Widnes.
“Quite understandably the women were distressed and threatened by the man’s behaviour and were left upset following the incident.”
Regarding the CCTV image released, the officer said: “The man in the images is someone who I think has information about this incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP on 0800 405 040, or text 61016, quoting ref: 341 of Thursday, May 26.
Or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
