THE Rossendale Male Voice Choir (RMVC) were in concert last weekend with the famous Black Dyke Brass Band, conducted by Professor Mr Nicholas Childs, and the Rossendale Scout Group Band, conducted by Mr Graham Helm.

The event at Manchester’s prestigious Bridgewater Hall originally planned for 2021 but delayed because of the pandemic - was held in aid of the East Lancashire Hospice and sponsored by Mr Peter Street and family. With all the ticket sales, programme sales, bucket collections, together with the transport money most generously donated by Moving People owner Mr Stuart Coates, it raised approximately £20,000.

RMVC Musical Director Matthew Thomas said: “It was an exceptional evening of music making at the highest standard and a very successful concert, raising much needed funds for the hospice. The choir majestically stepped up to their mark and it was a pleasure to share the stage with our friends in the Scout Band. Black Dyke Band were on magnificent form and personally it was a delight and honour to conduct them in both finales in each half!”

Performing to an audience of more than 1,000, the choir featured their new accompanist Liz Baker on her debut.

Chairman Chris Calvert added: “The Finale ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ with both bands and the choir singing ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and with the audience joining in, was a tremendous climax to a fantastic evening. The event raised over £20,000 for the wonderful work of the East Lancashire Hospice. Thanks to everyone involved in a truly memorable evening.”
