ALLAN HITCHEN PHILIP BLACK

MR Allan Hitchen, of Lacey Court, Haslingden, passed away at home on Thursday, October 8 with his family by his side, aged 82.

Allan was born in Crawshawbo­oth, and spent most of his life living in Haslingden.

He served his apprentice­ship as a shoe repairer, working in his parents’ shop in Haslingden.

During the 1960s he joined the Lancashire Area Health Authority Ambulance Service, and remained there until his early retirement.

He is survived by his wife Jennifer, to whom he has been married for over 60 years.

He leaves his daughter Gillian, grandson Taylor and sister Gwen.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, October 21 at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

MR Philip Black, from Helmshore, died on Sunday, October 11, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 67.

He lived all of his life in Haslingden and Helmshore and loved the beauty of the Rossendale countrysid­e.

Philip started work at the Co-Op slipper works in Haslingden.

He then worked for many years at Rossendale General Hospital until its closure in 2010, followed by a spell at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

His final workplace was Nino’s in Rawtenstal­l, where he stayed until taking early retirement.

Philip was a lifelong member of St Mary’s Church in Haslingden and a member of the Irish Club, where he served as treasurer for several years.

He was a passionate supporter and season ticket holder of Blackburn Rovers and loved horse racing.

He had a plan to visit every racecourse in England, sadly cut short by illness.

Philip also enjoyed travel – especially cruising around Europe and family holidays in Ireland.

He leaves behind his brother Steve, sister-inlaw Carol and nieces Lauren and Kirsten.

He will sadly be missed by all who knew him.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, October 21, at St Mary’s Haslingden, officiated by Fr Broadley, followed by an interment at Haslingden Cemetery.

Donations are requested to be made to Rossendale Hospice.
