Jenson’s fundraising rocks

-

A SCHOOLBOY has been putting more smiles on faces with his colourful ‘happy rocks’.

Jenson Bork, from Bacup, has been collecting rocks over the past few weeks and then finding pictures for his mum to draw on them.

The rocks are the latest project for Jenson, who spent the earlier part of lockdown selling hand painted key rings to raise money for the NHS, as featured in the Free Press back in May.

Mum Romanii Fitton said he struggles to draw and write as he is visually impaired due to a condition called Septooptic dysplasia.

He has also made his own box at St John’s with St Michael’s Primary School to put the rocks in, and they were placed near the big tree on his street, Bankside Lane.

Romanii, who is 29 and used to run the cafe at Animal Quackers petting farm, said her son started collecting the rocks after they went on holiday to Wales.

She said: “He will look up on the internet and pick designs that he likes.

“He said when everyone is happy the world is a better place. He says it’s good to be nice and that’s where the idea for the happy rocks came from.

“They’ve pretty much all gone, but there are a few left.”

Eight-year-old Jenson’s dad is Jamie and he is a brilliant brother to Jett, one, as well as a foster brother.

On his birthday earlier this summer, Jenson handed over a cheque for £1,070 to Oldham Neonatal Unit, where he was born. Fittingly the cheque was presented to Dr Anjum who was the doctor who saved his life after he was not given good odds of survival.
