●● Team West members at the 2018 WKO British Championships MARTIAL ARTS

IT was another successful day for Team West recently as they competed at the 2018 WKO British Championships.

They had taken a team of nine fighters to the event, and came away with seven gold medals and one silver medal, meaning they established themselves as one of the the top four clubs in Britain that day, leaving coach Chris West unbelievably proud of the students.

The breakdown of the achievements saw Tyler Faulkes, aged seven, become WKO British Champion in the Light Contact Kickboxing category, while 13-year-old Kenzie Ratcliffe also picked up the same accolade.

There were two awards for 10 year old Elloise Dyson, who was crowned WKO British Kickboxing Champion and WBO British Sport Boxing Champion.

Stella Dentitha and Wayne Kay each became WBO British Champion in the Sport Boxing category, while Claire Lumsden was WKO British Champion in the Light Contact category.

The final accolade went to seven year old Lacey Pilling, who finished as WKO British Silver Medalist in Light Contact Kickboxing.

Coach Chris West gave an extra special mention to Nathaniel Leteney and Lewis Stevens.

West said: “We were proud to have these two representing the club and narrowly missing out on medals themselves.

“We learn more from defeat and I can see improvements and progress these two especially have made, so keep up the hard work guys.

“Also a special thank you to all of the parents that support us, as without everyone pulling together we couldn’t do what we do.”
