Credit to the council where it is due

CREDIT where it is due – Rossendale council has chalked up two more successes in its crackdown on people who don’t dispose of their waste.

Two men who left stinking rubbish to rot in back yards have been fined hundreds of pounds for doing so.

One man, from Bacup, allowed rotting household rubbish to build up in his back yard, prompting complaints from neighbours.

He was prosecuted after failing to respond to an order from the council to clear up.

Meanwhile, a Blackburn man has been fined after failing to shift waste accumulating at the rear of a takeaway in Haslingden.

Rossendale council has had a number of successes on this front, and we should be very grateful for that.

Disposing of your rubbish is something most of us just assume is our responsibility – even if it’s just filling up the bin and putting it out.

The fact some people don’t realise that is very sad.

You can’t fault the council’s approach here.

They give people the chance to correct their errors, and if they don’t, they follow through with the threat to prosecute.

It’s very important people who don’t care much for those around them when it comes to dumping waste know that a court appearance can follow – hopefully it is very strong deterrent for others doing the same.
