Summer fair makes a splash
WATER Primary School’s Summer Fair proved every cloud has a silver lining when the day raised an impressive £1,300.
The rain poured down at the annual event, organised by the Friends of Water School fundraising committee, but the bad weather did not stop the fun.
There were craft stalls, many of which had to be moved inside because of the weather, homemade cakes, a tombola, a children’s tombola with toy and book prizes, and a barbecue and refreshments to keep hunger at bay.
There was even a stall full of homemade woollen dolls, handcrafted by school administrator Ann Hartley, and including a quirky collection of characters ranging from Harry Potter to Superman.
Visitors also enjoyed taking their turns at a lucky dip and guessing the weight of a cake made by Beverley Cox, mum to one of the pupils.
Guessing the number of jelly beans in the jar, an event sponsored by Lumb Accountancy Services, was another fun activity on the day.
There was also facepainting and body art for the children.
Adults enjoyed perusing a plant stall and children enjoyed a host of fun games including Splat the Rat, balloon bursting and paper aeroplane throwing.
School administrator Ann said: “Gazebos were used to help keep the rain off outside, although the children taking part in the outdoor games didn’t seem to bother about the showers at all.
“In fact they created a few showers themselves at the ‘soak the teacher stocks’, which proved to be very popular!
“Despite the rain there was a steady stream of visitors to the fair and a big thank you must go to Friends of Water for organising the event and to all of the people who helped out on the day.
“We raised nearly twice the amount of money we did last year so we were really pleased.”
