Eight officers needed to arrest HGV L-driver high on cocaine
ALEARNER driver who got behind the wheel of a 26-tonne van whilst high on cocaine had to be arrested by eight officers after becoming violent.
Police were called to Alderbank in Wardle following reports a man who has not passed his driving test - was ranting and climbing onto vehicles and residents’ sheds on Tuesday morning.
He was overpowered by eight officers after attempting to resist arrest.
Officers then discovered he wasn’t qualified to drive the vehicle as he only had a provisional driving licence.
It is understood the man was high on cocaine and had been driving a huge HGV before he flew into a rage.
It was also discovered he didn’t have the correct qualification to drive the vehicle when officers found his provisional licence.
A witness, who asked not to be named, said: “At about 5am I heard a noise and got out of bed to take a look and all hell had broken loose.
“He was shouting, running through gardens and jumping over walls - I could not believe what I was seeing.
“Some of my neighbours had come out of their houses to look at what was happening.
“While he was running about he’d left the engine of the lorry running.
“The roads are pretty tight up here, so how he didn’t smash into any of the cars parked up or the houses I will never know.”
Officers manning the GMP Traffic Twitter account posted: “Alderbank, Wardle.
“This morning. backing up our divisional colleagues to a violent male climbing on sheds and vans.
“It was the driver of this 26t lorry, high on cocaine, oh and only a provisional licence for this vehicle. Eight officers to detain him safely.”
