YEAR 10 BTEC Dance Students have been issued with letters outlining the forthcomin­g 12 Degrees North Dance Residency in October.

It is important that all reply forms are returned as soon as possible and that students understand the working arrangemen­ts during curriculum time for that week.

Rehearsals are now well under way for our forthcomin­g production of Hairspray on November 20 and 21, and tickets are available directly from school at breaktimes, lunchtimes and after school.

Tickets are priced at £4 (no concession­s) and are available from the CEPA office in advance only.

Our rehearsal timetable is available to download from our school website and all cast and crew have been issued with paper copies of the timetable.

Please ensure that parents and students are clear about finish times and arrangemen­ts regarding travel from school.

This week sees the launch of our Language of Creativity wordsearch competitio­n which is open to all students in school.

Three winners will be drawn from all correctly submitted entries and the closing date is Friday, October 17. Entry forms are available from our school website or directly from your community tutor.

Create and Participat­e through our new VLE Edition 18 is available to view now and provides students with a wealth of informatio­n regarding our weekly arts activities.

Students in Year 7 are to receive a free new book as part of our Bookbuzz campaign.

Work is being undertaken in class in CALL and students will be able to choose a book of their choice from a selected list.

We are hoping that books will be received before half term.

Tickets for our forthcomin­g evening of arts entertainm­ent titled Starting With The Shipping Forecast are now available from the CEPA office.

The evening will feature an hour long show, dance, drama and music and will conclude with a fish a chip supper in newspapers.

Tickets cost £6 (including food; vegetarian options are available).

Arts Award Club started this week and takes place every Friday from 2.45pm until 4pm in the heartspace.

The club is open to all years and allows students to achieve additional qualificat­ions. For more details, please contact Mr De Courcey.

Technical Theatre Club starts this week and is led by Mr Wilcock in the Heart Space from 2.45pm until 4pm.

The club allows students the chance to learn more about lighting, sound and stage effects and use specialist stage equipment.

The club is open to all years and is a great way to make new friends.

Song Writing Club takes place every Friday and is open to all years.

This builds on the success of the club over the past few years and is led by Mr Dalby.

This takes place in G3 from 2.45pm until 4pm.

An open evening takes place on Monday (September 29) from 6.45pm until 9pm and all are welcome.

The headteache­r’s welcome and address takes place at 7pm and is repeated again at 8pm.

We hope that families can come along and see the good work that we do.

Top performers at GCSE Core Science 2014 were Sadia Ahmed and Ethan Marriott (Both A*).

Well done. Two students from Year 11 further additional science were successful in gaining the science scholarshi­p award at Rochdale sixth form.

If pupils would like Revision guides or workbooks, they are available to purchase from the Science Office for £3.

Staff teaching Year 9 have been busy investigat­ing ‘which fuel is best’. Pupils have been inquisitiv­e young scientists developing their independen­t learning skills and challengin­g their natural curiosity of the world around them.

STEM club members will take part in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Global Experiment to find out the best conditions for growing crystals.

As part of the Internatio­nal Year of Crystallog­raphy we will grow crystals and compare our results with students around the world, to see who can grow the biggest crystals.

STEM club started on Friday, September 26.

Plans are under way for our teacher exchange to Ghana, sponsored by the British Schools Council.

On October 18, two Humanities Staff are visiting our partnershi­p school, Senfi High School near Kumasi, Ghana.

As part of the Connecting Classrooms project, they will be teaching students about life in Britain, to support a comparison of lifestyles between the two countries.

As a follow-up to the Dared to be Loved project, the Urban Faith group starts shortly with a new focus on random acts of kindness.

The Wednesday lunchtime sessions will be supported by two new youth workers from Texas and Brazil.

Students from Falinge Park High School will be taking part in the world Marathon Challenge on October 1 and 2, raising money for Save the Children.

September 16 saw the Year 9 boys Football Team begin their session with a home match against Wardle.

A great demonstrat­ion of teamwork saw Falinge goals from Chris Bonde, Tahsin Asraf and a further two goals from Callum Harrison with Falinge running out 5-1 winners.

In other football news, the Year 10 boys team put in a valiant effort against a strong team from Middleton Tech, but in the end they lost 6-1.

Elsewhere, Mr Poole’s Year 7 and 8 rugby club began this week with a positive turnout.

Anyone interested in joining should speak with Mr Poole or Mr Barron in the PE office.
