Children learn about life in great outdoors

-

NURSERY children at Shawclough Primary School are making the most of the new outdoor learning classroom.

This year’s intake are the first group of children to benefit from the new outdoor learning space, which was completed early this year after the school was awarded National Lottery Funding.

Amongst the new facilities are mini-beast and water exploration areas, outdoor painting and music sections and a shelter for reading.

The youngsters have also been growing their own fruit and vegetables, to sell in their garden shop or make into healthy meals.

Nursery teacher Deborah Mellor said: “We are pleased to announce that our outdoor learning classroom is now open.

“The project has been funded by National Lottery Funding and we are very grateful for the opportunity to further enhance an outstanding learning environment that enables children to be engaged and motivated to learn.”

She added: “It’s wonderful - it’s made a massive difference that the children can now access the curriculum both indoors and outdoors.

“We provide carefully planned learning experiences that are challenging, playful and responsive to children’s needs, feelings and interests.”

The nursery offers places to children aged three and four.
