Housed in green card boxes with plain yellow inserts. Sets 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6:

Oblong boxes with yellow insert card and train picture on lid.

c 1932 Purple marbled ‘MODELLED MINIATURES’ box.

c 1936 Blue patterned ‘MECCANO DINKY TOYS’ box, pictorial insert card.

c 1939 Green box with plain insert, ‘DINKY TOYS’ label.

1952-56 Green box with yellow insert, stripe lid label.

Train sets 17, 18, 19 and 20 box sequence:

Sets 12, 42, 43, 44 and 49 (Pre-war issue):

Blue landscape boxes with inner blue/green pictorial inserts.

Sets 151, 152, 156, 161, 162:

Grey/blue or blue (152) display boxes with inner pictorial scenic backdrop and packing boards.

Pre-war USA Sets:

May display ‘FAO SCHWARZ’ labels on base of box and ‘MECCANO CO. OF AMERICA INC.’ on box lid (e.g., 62h Hurricane Set).

Early Post-war USA Special Sets:

Sets for the US market were distribute­d by H. Hudson Dobson of New York. They are housed in flat boxes with a mottled greenishbl­ue lid. The picture label on the lid depicts a boy’s face plus line drawings of various models. The lid often still retains a red ‘H. Hudson Dobson’ label. The Set number and type are shown on the main label, e.g. ‘NO. 6 COMMERCIAL VEHICLES.’ Sets 1, 2, 3 and 6 are listed – the Editor would welcome any new informatio­n on the contents of these, and of Sets 4 and 5.
