Club culture was established and cocaine had become as popular as ecstasy. One promoter, remembering the bacchanalian spectaculars he organised, is asked where he used to buy his coke, and cheerfully says he can’t remember. But we’re then told how the fearsome Spanish gang Los Miami controlled the sale of the drug, buying off or threatening businesspeople and police officers to maintain dominance — while sampling a little too much of the product themselves.
