Pride of Longbridge
Metro 40th anniversary to be celebrated
This April it’ll be 15 years since Mg-rover hit the buffers, so expect a big presence at Cofton Park on April 18 to mark the occasion. That’s when the annual BMC/BL/MGR extravaganza that is the Pride of Longbridge takes place.
Gemma Cartwright is one of the event organisers and she filled us in about what’s taking place in 2020: ‘This year the Metro is 40 and we’re trying to get as many of them to attend as possible, especially
A-series editions, although all K-series models are welcome too of course. The plan is to put together a Metro timeline, so if any PC readers own one of these wonderfully versatile little hatchbacks, we’d love to see it there.’
One of the stalwarts of the BL scene is Tanya Field, avid collector of Minis and much more besides. She told us:
‘As usual there’ll be a convoy setting off from the Cowley Mini factory at 8.30am, to drive through the countryside including Woodstock, Broadway and Evesham.
It’s not essential to book, but if anyone expecting to join in the fun could let me know first it would be appreciated.’
With anywhere between 1500 and 2000 cars taking part there’s always a brilliant atmosphere in Cofton Park and, while an increasing number of later Longbridge and Cowley models have been attending in recent years there’s plenty of room for older classics to join in.
You can drop Tanya a line via tanyafield999@gmail.com if you want to join the convoy. Otherwise keep an eye on tinyurl.com/tn7hnhq for updates.
