Tewkesbury to enjoy 1000-classic event

-

Where we’ve been, where you should go and clubs that make it possible.

One of the great things about owning a classic is that you’re never short of opportunities to do some good with it, whether it’s taking your neighbour’s teenager to the prom or attending a fundraising event in aid of local or national charities. On Sunday August 19 you’ve got the perfect chance to help local worthwhile causes, by going to the annual Tewkesbury Classic Vehicle Festival, organised by the local Rotary Club and now one of the biggest car gatherings in the south west.

The event grew out of a smaller gathering that used to run nearby. Now in its eighth year, the TCVF has grown to the point where more than 1000 classics assemble in the grounds of Tewkesbury School (GL20 8DF). The event’s Rebecca Leppard comments: ‘The show has raised over £100,000 for more than 50 charities, all of which are listed on the official website (tewkesburycvf.org). Vehicles taking part cover all eras from the dawn of motoring to pre-war, post-war, American, custom, hot rods to supercars. Everything from a Z28 Camaro to Bentleys, Jaguars and vintage Bugattis to massproduced runabouts from the likes of Mini, Ford, Renault, Morris and Austin.’

‘This year we’re delighted to announce the show debut of the Bond, Hannis & Osbourne Nuthing II Fancy drag racer that will fire up at regular intervals throughout the day. It’s not just cars either, as there will be over 200 classic motorcycles on display. The festival also features live vintage entertainment courtesy of the Haywood Sisters, Lindy Hop dance demonstrations, 110 quality trade stands, autojumble and plenty of catering. It’s a great value family day out, which raises vital money for great causes.’
