Double Presentation for Gosport Lifeboat Service
Members of the National Coastwatch Institution station at Gosport recently made two presentations to the Chair of the Gosport And Fareham Inshore Rescue Service, better known to everyone as GAFIRS.
The first came as a result
of the GAFIRS New Years
Day swim; three brave lady members of the local National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) station joined hundreds of swimmers for a chilly sponsored dip into the Solent.
Although more used to keeping watch over the sea, coasts and other swimmers for those in distress, the ladies bravely launched themselves into the water and were not at all distressed to raise a substantial amount in personal sponsorship. One part of this was donated to the NCI station, and the other was given to GAFIRS.

Station Officer Caroline,
accompanied by Training
Officer Lesley and Deputy
Station Manager Lenie, presents a cheque to the Chair of GAFIRS, Joanne, watched by other members of the GAFIRS team.
In the second picture, while the lifeboat crew continue with their training,
an official ‘Thank You’ certificate is being presented
to Joanne by NCI Station Manager Richard, watched by the GAFIRS Secretary, Keith.
This is presented in recognition of a training programme run by GAFIRS for members of the NCI Gosport team.
This included First Aid,
CPR, and the use of Defib
machines.
Station Manager Richard said: “Although we hope that we will not have a great use for these skills – our main role within NCI is to keep a lookout and if necessary use our radios to guide the GAFIRS or other lifeboat to a casualty in distress - it’s good to know we have the
skills at our fingertips if we
need them”.
