Clean it up
An open letter to Councillor G VernonJackson
A few observations which several of my likeminded associates have made.
Like many I have been prevented from going out, in addition I am no longer a car owner so reliant on home deliveries and kind neighbours. Recent surgery has meant even less mobility.
Maybe you would not understand the shock I experienced when I was taken to Commercial Road. The area is filthy. I was in Arundel Street outside ‘Debenhams’. The group who appeared to congregate around the fountain have moved. Nothing changes. Used filthy bedding in shop doorways. Extremely loud shouting and swearing. Intimidating to say the least, as is coughing and spitting.
No wonder no-one wants to shop in the area and I won't even discuss the lack of shops. I could get coffee in numerous places but was not stopping. I doubt I will be returning anytime soon and even considering changing my building society as I am scared to be there.
Another building is likely to become student accommodation. Does anyone in the civic offices/ council realise that students are here for approximately 33 weeks of the year? From what I recall they do not have money to spend in shops so this might be another reason for the demise of the area.
I cannot complete this without mentioning the traffic and its speed. The junction of Bransbury Park with Henderson Road is so scary, it is often treated as a chicane and the speed continues to the seafront. Ah, but of course there will be a traffic crossing outside the Henderson Park caravan park... promised at least four years ago!
Clean up the city so it becomes attractive once more – not just to shoppers but companies who would like to be here to sell their wares.
Stop procrastinating and get on
with the job you were elected to do. Ah, I have recalled that you are only there courtesy of the Conservative party… It might be worth remembering that for
next year.
