Jeanfield Swifts captain Aaron Whitehead is calling on the people of Perth to back their Scottish Cup dream.

The Fair City club have the chance to move into the main draw of the famous competition when Linlithgow Rose come calling.

After being wiped out by the weather last week, the Saturday fixture now falls on a day where Premiership side St Johnstone are not in action.

And Whitehead hopes that can lead to a bumper crowd at the Riverside to cheer Swifts into a round one tie with Highland League side Huntly.

“It would be brilliant to get a big support,” Whitehead said. “When you get a good crowd watching, that is perfect for us.

“With Saints playing at home last week, it probably wouldn’t have been favourable. But with the international break we might get a few more down.

“For anyone thinking of coming down, there’s always goals. It will be a very good game of football and these games are always tasty.”

Whitehead has been recovering from injury after tearing his hip-flexor but will be making himself available for selection.

He said: “It was a good thing for me personally that the game was called off last week because it gives me more time to recover.

“It’s been really frustrating trying to get back. I’ve been scratching at the walls, not knowing what to do with myself.

“But it’s been good to get back into training. I’ve been with the team as a back-up in case we picked up any injuries.

“I can run and want to play, but don’t think I can do that to the best of my ability yet. But I’m there to give the manager an option.

“I’m feeling better all the time and hopefully I will be available and an option this Saturday.”

Kick-off is 3pm.
