Rapid response for horse rider
Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) was first on the scene at a horse riding accident near Blairgowrie on Tuesday.
SCAA paramedics then worked with a Scottish Ambulance Service land crew at the scene before airlifting the injured female rider to advanced care at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
The charity-funded helicopter air ambulance service responded to 12 emergency call-outs in the past week, taking them from Angus to Argyll and on to the west coast islands.
A very sick little boy prompted a flight to Arran for an emergency transfer to specialist care at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock.
A SCAA teddy was also deployed to comfort the infant on his onward hospital journey.
And a second teddy was pressed into action for another little boy who required an urgent transfer from Mid-Argyll Community Hospital at Lochgilphead.
SCAA quickly had the youngster in the care of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital at Glasgow.
The emergencyresponse service also flew to Fort William this week to attend a cardiac patient and airlift him rapidly to specialist coronary care at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
SCAA was also first on scene when a call took the crew to Callander where they assisted land crew colleagues with a medical emergency.
The woman was then taken by road to hospital.
Other call-outs in the past week saw SCAA respond to road traffic accidents and medical emergencies.
*** Players at a recent Bidwells charity golf day proved their fundraising prowess was well above par when they carded a total of £1040 for SCAA.
The company, which has adopted SCAA as its charity of the year, also donated £88.71 through the latest emptying of a SCAA collection can placed in the staff canteen.
Organisers, artists and visitors at the recent 10th annual Rattray Arts Festival have raised a further £1469.42 for SCAA. This year’s landmark event brings the total raised by the community festival since 2013 to £7817.
Thanks also to the residents of Cluny Court sheltered housing complex in Blairgowrie who donated £50 to SCAA this week in support of the charity’s work.
The air ambulance charity also received £77.72 from Macnabs solicitors in Perth as one of several charities to benefit from the company’s various fundraising events involving staff and clients.
St Fillans Festive Committee brought some additional cheer to SCAA this week with a £750 donation - surplus funds raised at their festive weekend last month.
And two girls from St Fillans sold off some unwanted toys and raised a further much-appreciated £25 for the charity life-saving service.
*** Other locally placed SCAA collection cans being emptied and counted this week include those from the Green Welly Stop at Tyndrum (£196.90) and Newtyle Post Office (£153.08).
Local groups and organisations scheduled to hear of the work of SCAA at a presentation soon include Dunblane Civic Society at 7.30pm on September 9 in the Braeport Centre and the residents and staff of Kincarrathie House on September 16 at 2pm.
*** Have you been helped by SCAA? If the charity flew to the aid of you or a loved one, we would love to hear from you.
