£10k drug haul dealers given jail warning

-

Two drug dealers have been warned they could face prison sentences after police seized just under a kilo of cannabis, with a maximum street value of almost £10,000, on the A90, near Glencarse.

Cocaine was also seized in the operation, Perth Sheriff Court was told when the pair appeared on indictment this week.

Sheriff Gillian Wade called for background reports on the two accused to give the “widest information” about them and to consider the whole range of disposals.

But 28-year-old Daniel Weir was told it was “unlikely” he would avoid a custodial sentence.

And his co-accused, Mark Petticrew, aged 26, was warned he could “expect” time behind bars.

Both were allowed their liberty meantime pending sentencing on September 25.

Weir, of Balunie Drive, Dundee, admitted an amended charge of being concerned in the supply of cannabis, a class B drug, on the northbound A90, at Glencarse, on January 21, 2019.

He was subject to a November 2, 2018, bail order from Forfar Sheriff Court.

He had a not guilty plea accepted to a further charge of having an axe on the A90.

Petticrew, of Bowbridge Place, Dundee, pled guilty to dealing in the class A drug cocaine on the A90, and at his home, between October 24, 2017, and January 21, 2019.

Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson said the cannabis, which weighed nearly a kilo, had a maximum illicit value of £9950.

The cocaine had a street value of between £90 and £180.

A solicitor for Weir said he was in full-time employment and had rented accommodation.

Weir has previous convictions for assault to injury, breach of the peace, a football-related breach of the peace and flouting a community payback order.

Petticrew’s lawyer said he had just one conviction on his record but acknowledge that prison would be at the “forefront” of the sheriff ’s mind.

The background to the drug dealing incident will be given in detail by the fiscal next month.
