and staff that I played under and also work with.

“But once the game starts everything will settle down and it will be fairly normal.

“I was hoping the game was going to be at McDiarmid. I would’ve loved that.

“I know St Johnstone will take a good support up to Montrose so I’m excited to play in front of them as well.

“I’m just excited that I get the opportunity to play against Saints and show people what I can do. Hopefully I can impress a few people.

“It’s the games that I look forward to most. In the last two years I have been fortunate to play against Hibernian twice at Easter Road.

“Hibernian had just had success of their own by winning the Championship. You see what they have done in the league this year.

“They shifted the ball incredibly well but we did have chances at Easter Road.

“We certainly competed and are looking forward to playing a Premiership team and hopefully competing just as well.

“These games really show where I am individually. It will be a great indicator for the team as well.

“We are moving up a level and we’ll see if we can go and perform against these top teams.”

Scone-based Steeves used to coach Saints defender and Scotland under-21 international Jason Kerr.

“I actually coached Jason Kerr when he first came into the club at under-17 level,” Steeves revealed.

“I followed Jason when he was at East Fife and played against him a few times. He was different class.

“When he first came to the club he was a centre midfielder and eventually moved back to centre-back in the under-20s team.

“He is built like a tank, good on the ball, amazing in the air and scores goals from set plays.

“It was almost inevitable that he was going to break through.

“He has a great attitude and is a good listener. So I did expect him to go and do what he has done.”
