Tulloch kids enjoy trip to Hampden

- Paul Cargill

Perth primary school pupils got the rare chance to punt footballs around the pitch at Scotland’s national stadium.

Pupils from Tulloch Primary School, along with dozens more schoolchildren from across the country, were at Hampden Park to take part in the finale of a nationwide footballing challenge organised by Tesco Bank.

The pupils had all received six weeks of coaching with the SFA to sharpen their skills.

Putting the kids through their paces on the day was former Motherwell player Jamie Murphy, who said: “It has been a fantastic day and it’s brilliant to see so many boys and girls having fun playing football on the pitch.”

The Tesco Bank Football Challenge, now in its seventh year, introduces around 20,000 P2-3 children to football every year to encourage them to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

More than 120,000 children across 2200 primary schools in Scotland have been involved.

Adele Mills from Tesco Bank said: “We were delighted to bring children from Tulloch Primary School to Hampden Park for a day of football and fun.

“Helping to instil positive, healthy lifestyle habits in all the children that take part in the initiative is a key part of our community programme and the national festival is a fantastic setting to inspire children to get active and have fun with their friends.”
