New book by former Provost

-

A new book is launched today describing how Perth executed its successful campaign for restored city status.

The former Provost of Perth and Kinross, Dr John Hulbert one of the key characters pushing for the move and the ideal person to tell the inside story - has penned “Scotland’s Oldest and Newest City: How Perth Regained its City Status and Why it Matters”.

Bringing new opportunities and funding streams, becoming a city once more in 2012 was hailed as the most important event in the history of Perth for nearly 200 years.

The author and MP Pete Wishart, who provided the book’s foreword, will be at the 4.30pm book launch today at the Royal George Hotel, to which all are welcome.

Previously Dr Hulbert demonstrated his affection and knowledge of the Fair City when he wrote“Perth, A Complete Guide for Locals and Visitors”.

His new work, published this week by Edinburgh’s Luath Press, asks and answers a series of questions such as“What was the biggest challenge to Perth becoming a city again? Why was Perth more important than Edinburgh? And how exactly did Perth execute its successful campaign for city status against the enormous odds stacked against it?”

Dr Hulbert called on the Perthshire Advertiser for assistance with some of the images which appear in the book.

Now in local bookshops, the book costs £12.99.
