Defenders deserve huge credit
Jim Goodwin insists his Buddies backline deserves credit for securing another Premiership shutout.
The St Mirren defence kept another clean sheet on Wednesday night against Motherwell, their third in their last six games.
Despite their recent injury concerns, Saints still boast the fifth best defensive record in the division, and Goodwin believes his side just need to get back in tune up front to return to winning ways after four low-scoring draws on the spin.
He said: “We’re obviously disappointed not to have won the game on Wednesday night, but I don’t think we did enough to win it.
“Motherwell finished third in the table last season and we need to remember that.
“Both teams defended really well, there weren’t any great opportunities for either team.
“We had one at the beginning of the second half when the Motherwell keeper made a great save from Jon Obika, and they had a header off the post which fell into Jak Alnwick’s hands.
“Apart from that, I don’t think either side did enough in the attacking third.
“Motherwell were always a threat, particularly in the second half but I need to credit my backline.”
