Alerts over bogus workman and speeding

-

Six alleged crimes were reported since last month’s meeting of Ralston Community Council, three of which have been detected, according to the organisation’s minutes.

One of particular note was that of a bogus workman, which happened in July or August but was only reported recently.

Community council members Ian Rae raised the ongoing speeding problem in Newtyle Road.

But Police Constable Laura Wyllie told the meeting traffic police have said the road signs are not legally enforceable.

Mr Rae ha d asked Renfrewshire councillor Jennifer Adam-McGregor about speed bumps at his location, and she said she would contact the roads department.

According to the community council minutes, Mrs AdamMcGregor said a petition could be effective in this matter and Police Constable Bill Heron said a representative of the roads department could attend a Community Council meeting.

Commu n i t y C o u n c i l chairman Allan Thompson asked if a speed sign is enforceable.

PC Heron said it was but it requires the council to create an enforceable order, according to the minutes.

Community council member May Fernie said the 20mph sign painted on the road at her home in Bathgo Avenue had worn away and asked if it could be repainted.

Mr Thompson asked police their opinion regarding Neighbourhood Watch schemes. PCHeron said he was unsure of their effectiveness, the minutes recorded.

Councillor Adam-McGregor told the meeting budget preparation was underway at Renfrewshire Council.

She added that Ralston Community Council member Hugh Sherry had attended the Local Partnership meeting, which is trying to get a young voice representative appointed.

The next meeting of the partnership in March is to agree priorities and a later meeting will discuss grant applications.

Mr Thompson asked how this will affect the community council’s application for a games event in June, and Mrs AdamMcGregor advised the claim should be submitted as soon as possible and a special meeting could be arranged for April.

Mrs Adam-McGregor said it was preferable for continuity for one person to attend these meetings instead of two, as Ralston Community Council had planned. Mr Thompson said he would ask Hugh Sherry to attend all these meetings.

The next meeting of Ralston Community Council is on Thursday, March 14, at 7.30pm in Ralston Community Centre.
