It’s all change at the top after St Peter’s shock defeat

First Division battle is on and Gleniffer man crowned singles champ

Paisley and District Darts League saw sides battling it out for league and cup glory over the course of the week.

The biggest news of the week saw Pickwicks beating St Peter’s in a nailbiting 5-4 win, to hand Hagg Bar A top spot in the First Division.

In the eye-catching clash, the visitors stunned St Peter’s by taking the first singles match before the home side levelled.

Pickwicks took the following two games to open up a 3- 1 lead, only for them to be clawed back again, eventually falling behind.

But in a rollercoaster encounter Pickwicks stole the win with a bullseye finish from Ian Callaghan to unseat St Peter’s at the top of the league.

Hagg Bar A were ready to pounce on any slip-ups and beat bottom-placed Keystone A 9-0, with the loss of only two legs throughout the game.

And Railway Inn kept in touch with the top three when they travelled to Hagg Bar, to take on Hagg Bar C, and took both points with a 6-3 win.

Burgh Bar also had a 6-3 win of their own at the expense of Court Bar, so they stay on the same points as Railway and also only four legs behind them.

The last game of the division saw Flying Horse take on local rivals Arthurlie Inns and, with the teams only being separated by two points, it was expected to be close.

This proved to be the case as the home team came through with a narrow 5-4 victory.

Meanwhile, the Second Division singles finals was played out in Cafuffals on Monday night after last week’s qualifying night, and 16 players from six different teams managed to get through, with Cafuffals themselves supplying six of them.

In the first game, Gleniffer Hotel’s Rab McTavish couldn’t get past home player G Yule who won through 3-1.

McTavish would face the winner of the next game which pitched teammates against each other as Pockets Red’s Alan Smith played Laura Grant, and managed to get through a tricky game 3-2 which included Smith hitting a 156 checkout in the third leg.

Another Pockets Red player getting through to the last eight was David Park after he beat Inkerman’s Gareth Cameron 3-1.

Park would go on to meet another Inkerman player, Don Alexander, after he defeated Del Allan from Hazel Arms 3-0.

It was another clash of team-mates in the next game as Cafuffals pair Willie Baillie and Kriss McIntosh met and it was the former who emerged the victor.

In the next game, Cafuffals had more interest as David Brewster played Gleniffer Hotel’s Lorna McFadyen, however hopes of an all-Cafuffals clash in the next round didn’t materialise as Lorna won through 3-2.

Gleniffer Hotel player Alan Ferguson Jr got into the last eight courtesy of a 3-1 win over Neil Anderson from Cafuffals and would face The Kelburn’s Alan Sturrock after a close 3-2 over Gordon Anderson.

In the last eight, Smith beat Yule while Park overcame Alexander to set up the first semi-final game.

In the second game McIntosh dispatched McFadyen 3-2 to set up a game against Alan Ferguson Jr who beat Sturrock.

In the first of the semi-finals Smith won through to the final after a 3-1 win over Park, while in the second game Ferguson Jr beat McIntosh 3-2.

In the final, Ferguson Jr took an early 2-0 lead, before he really hit the gas and reeled off a couple of 16-dart legs to take the Second Division Singles title to Gleniffer Hotel, with a 4-0 scoreline.
