Scouts notch up 85 years

-

One of Paisley’s best known Scout groups is gearing up for its 85th birthday celebrations.

The 7th Paisley & District (JNI) was formed in 1932, and will be holding a celebratory dinner on the November 11.

This is in line with the group’s tradition of coming together every five years to cast their minds back to days gone by and for the current volunteers to up-date on the progress within the group.

The group has its based at The Bield, in Paisley’s west end.

Under the leadership of group scout leader, Stephen Allan, the group has converted the old church into a multi-use community facility.

Thee building consists of a three halls, a meeting room, kitchen facilities, archery facilities and not just one but two indoor climbing walls.

Mr Allan said: “At JNI we are very proud of our, almost, 85 years of providing adventure to girls and boys across the west of Paisley.

“As a group we strive on building good community relationships and the group over the years have been involved in key projects.

“The birthday celebrations provides the group with an opportunity to remember of history but also celebrate the present JNI and indeed our exciting future.

“We are looking for all former members to place both dates in their diaries but also to touch base with the group. We are keen for old stories and pictures.”
