Feelgood factor back at Skem says McNally

- BY SAM CARROLL

PAUL McNally believes the feel-good factor has returned to Skelmersdale United following last weekend’s goalless draw with Runcorn Town.

United had lost four consecutive NWCFL Premier Division matches before the clash with Town, who also found themselves heading into the fixture without a league win since August.

“I thought it was a really positive performance from every one of the lads today, even the subs that have come on,” McNally said.

“I couldn’t ask for more and the point was the least we deserved on the overall reflection of play and we probably could have got a win.

“I’ll take a point, to get confidence back, the lads have put a tough shift in and it’s not an easy place to come. I’ll take it.”

United welcome Irlam to their temporary home at Prescot Cables on Friday in the Macron Cup just one month after suffering a 4-0 defeat in the Premier Division.

After suffering relegation from the Bet Victor North West Division last season, the Blues find themselves just five points above the drop-zone but McNally is optimistic for the coming weeks.

“We’ll train Tuesday and Thursday, work on one or two things, and we’ve got a bit of a feel-good factor around the lads again,” the former Litherland REMYCA boss said ahead of Irlam.

“A bit more work-rate, a bit more quality, and we’re not going to be in the top five but we’ll give every team a game and I’ve always said that.

“It’s just the last month our standards have dropped, we stopped doing what we were good at and we thought we were better than we were, some of the players.

“Now we’re back to working hard and seeing where we go from there.”
