Ponds, pool and more caravans under park plan

-

A WEST Lancashire caravan park has revealed its plans to expand, which include two new fishing ponds, a new swimming pool and more caravans on site.

Shaw Hall Caravan Park, situated on Smithy Lane in Scarisbrick, plans to make various improvements in a bid to attract more customers.

According to the application the venue submitted to West Lancashire Borough Council, some of the proposed changes include creating two fishing ponds and incorporating enhanced landscaping.

The report states: “It is understood from the applicant that it is becoming increasingly common for touring caravan parks to offer fishing facilities as part of the overall leisure and tourism package.

“In order to remain competitive and viable, the leisure and tourism package available at Shaw Hall Caravan Park is required to increase in quality and variety.”

They also intend to upgrading the existing office building to provide leisure facilities, which will involve demolishing the existing building and replacing it with a building which provides a swimming pool, male and female changing rooms, a gym, a shop and sales room, toilets and a reception and office.

The report says: “The existing leisure building is no longer fit for purpose and requires demolition.

“The building is not a purposebuilt leisure building but a converted farm building that is no longer suitable or able to meet the current needs of the business.

“The established caravan park needs upgrading to improve the offer to visitors wanting to have a holiday at the site whether that be weekend breaks and weekly or fortnightly holidays.”

Additionally, the park has also applied for permission to relocate and upgrade the bowling green and children’s play area on their premises for the “enjoyment of visitors.”

The site currently accommodates 260 caravan pitches, including 37 touring pitches, which is below the number of caravans that are permitted on the site.

It is thought that if the refurbishments go ahead, five more full time jobs will be created at the caravan park, which has 18 full-time members of staff.
