Group shared clothes for two weeks after luggage left in UK
TURKEY HOLIDAY ‘RUINED’ AS AIRLINE FAILED TO LOAD OR SEND 11 CASES AND PUSHCHAIR
A GROUP of family and friends from Nottinghamshire say their holiday in Turkey was ruined after their luggage was left in the UK.
Nicola Cockayne, from Toton, said they were forced to keep wearing the same underwear during their twoweek stay in Kalkan.
The group, made up of 11 families and friends, including a 5-year-old and four teenagers, were due to fly with Sun Express to Dalaman from Manchester on July
19 - the hottest day on record.
But their 11 cases and pushchair were never loaded onto the plane.
“We were waiting for two hours and 40 minutes on the plane then staff said that the luggage would be sent in two days,” recalled Ms Cockayne, a baby sensory business owner.
But the suitcases never arrived, leaving the group without luggage for 14 days.
Ms Cockayne said everyone was given £150 through insurance, but that only covered a certain amount of essentials. “Luckily four of us ladies are the same size so we could share clothes around,” she said.
“The five-year-old didn’t have a pushchair so that made it difficult. When he’d fall asleep at a bar at night we’d have to carry him home. “I’m a single parent. I’d saved up for two years for this holiday just for it to be ruined. “We made the best of what we could but it wasn’t the holiday we were hoping for. “We took barely any photos as we were in the same clothes the whole time.”
Ms Cockayne told the Post she will be making a claim with Sun Express.
“The lack of communication was disgusting. How can they leave families for two weeks without luggage? There were people on the flight with younger children. How did they cope? “I’m going to try and claim for everything, for a ruined holiday. The whole experience was a total nightmare.” Manchester Airport declined to comment, saying it was not responsible for the baggage making it onto the plane. Sun Express has been approached for comment.
