Forest ‘working on’ double swoop for defensive duo
WILLIAMS AND RICHARDS COULD JOIN CLUB ‘BY WEEKEND’ SAYS REPORT AS REDS LOOK TO BOLSTER KEY FULL-BACK OPTIONS
NOTTINGHAM Forest are said to be working on deals for full-backs Omar Richards and Neco Williams as Steve Cooper looks to continue to add to his squad.
It is increasingly likely Djed Spence, who impressed on loan with Forest last season, is on his way to Tottenham this summer.
That leaves the Reds on the lookout for a wing-back replacement, as well as continuing to strengthen in preparation for the Premier League.
According to The Athletic, Cooper has identified the full-back positions as a key area to strengthen over the transfer window. The Reds have already been linked with a number of players in the position, with the club still holding an interest in Man City’s Issa Kabore.
Forest have also been linked with Liverpool’s Williams and Bayern Munich’s Richards.
The Athletic say the club are ‘working on’ permanent deals for the two players and are hoping that agreements can be reached for the duo ‘by the weekend.’
The report adds Forest are also ‘keen’ on signing Huddersfield’s left-back Harry Toffolo, who could be available for as little as £2.5 million due to having just one year remaining on his deal at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Toffolo played the full 90 minutes of the play-off final between the two teams in May.
Forest are back in action for the first time at the end of this week as they take on Championship side Coventry City in their first pre-season friendly tomorrow afternoon. While that game may come too early should Forest complete transfers for Williams and Richards, they could possibly be available for the next friendly against Barnsley on Saturday, July 16 (5.30pm kick off).
