VILLAGERS in Cropwell Butler say they live in the best place in Nottinghamshire.

The village – in the borough of Rushcliffe – it has conservation area status.

And people living there say “the people are great”.

They also praised Cropwell Butler’s historic streets, surrounding countryside and rural homes.

Retired resident Michelle Stevenson, 62, said: “We are lucky because we have fields on our doorstep.

“We have some nice walks from here.

“We have the village pub which is always nice – it’s a good place to meet people.

“It has quite a good community feel in that sense.

“It’s a lovely place to live and we are lucky – it is quiet.

“I’ve made most of my friends through the village pub.

“I find everyone very friendly.” Ms Stevenson added: “The good thing is that it is near to Bingham and not that far to get into Nottingham either, or Newark.

“It’s quite well placed and quite rural.”

She added: “There’s quite a lot of history – I’ve read a lot about the history. “A lot of these old buildings – there’s a post office, there’s some history there and it has a plaque on it.

“It’s a house of historical interest.

“It’s really nice – I really like living here.

“I like being out in the country.” Another resident, Keith Reeves, 70, who is also retired, praised the people in the village.

Mr Reeves said: “I’ve been here for nearly 30 years – it’s nice.

“It’s good – there’s quite a bit going on and you can join in if you want to and get involved. “The people are nice. “There’s plenty of walks around here and that sort of thing.

“They’re nice people – I never have any problems so that’s nice.”

Tony Edwards, 65, licensee at The Plough, the village pub, said: “The people are great – really friendly. “It [the pub] is really old. “This is the only place that sells anything – so people have no choice but to come here.”
