Woman, 53, died in crash on Boxing Day

-

PEOPLE have reacted with shock and sadness after a woman was killed in a Boxing Day crash on the A52.

Emergency services were called to the A52 Radcliffe Road between Gamston and Stragglethorpe after the collision at 5.10pm on Sunday.

Police have now confirmed that a 53-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene – and her family have been informed.

The road was closed for more than five hours, reopening at around 1.30am on Monday.

In nearby Radcliffe-on-trent, residents spoke out after hearing about the tragedy.

Angus Mckechnie, 62, who has lived in Radcliffe for 11 years, and uses the A52 nearly every day, said the road can be dangerous.

He added: “It’s really sad to hear. They are doing a lot of work on it [the A52] at the moment, so hopefully that will improve things.”

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I didn’t hear about the crash – that is just awful. For it to happen this time of year as well. You feel for the family.

“I’m always careful using the A52.”

Helen Dawson, 52, said: It’s terrible to hear that someone has died.”

Police are investigating the incident and are now appealing to anyone who may have information about the collsion.

Detective Constable Emma Temple, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “A woman has tragically lost her life following this incident and specialist officers are working to offer the family support.

“Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.

“We continue to investigate the incident thoroughly and conduct enquiries, and we are now asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 339 of December 26.”
