Barnes goes out on loan
NOTTINGHAM Forest youngster Josh Barnes has taken “the next step” in his progression by heading out on loan.
The Under-23s midfielder joins National League South outfit Truro City for a month, following in the footsteps of Reds team-mates Will Swan, Kieran Hayes and George Shelvey, who have all had spells with the White Tigers.
Barnes was involved with Chris Hughton’s first team during pre-season and recently put pen to paper on a new contract at the City Ground.
“I’m buzzing to have signed an extended contract and I’ve been here since I was eight years old so it’s another step forward for me,” the 20-year-old told the club website.
“I’ve managed to work my way through the age groups and had a taste of the first-team in pre-season, which was a great experience.
“The interest from Truro has been there for a while now but Covid-19 put a dent in that, so it’s great to get that sorted as it’ll be good for my development.
“I had a taste of playing with Truro a couple of times in pre-season and the lads were really welcoming, so I’m excited to go there and get more minutes under my belt.”
Barnes’ move comes after a trial period with Truro, when he featured in friendlies against Torquay United and Exeter City.
“Josh is somebody who’s been in our system for a long time and he’s progressed nicely through the Academy,” said Under-23s boss Andy Reid.
“The time is right for him to go out on loan and this is the next step for his progression. We’ve got a great link with Truro and we’ve sent the likes of Will Swan there before who had a great spell.
“It’ll be a great experience for him and one that he’ll come back in better shape from.
“We feel that Josh getting first team football in a men’s league week in, week out will only benefit him further.”
