Abergele Strikers keep up their momentum

-

ABERGELE Strikers continue to dominate proceedings in the Spillane and Co Wealth Management T20 Evening Cricket League.

A low-scoring top of the table encounter was settled with a devastating spell from left-arm spinner Rich Marsh-Evans, whose 4-6 off four overs enabled Gele to beat Rydal by 13 runs.

Strikers’ Ben Garnett (25) and Josh Lloyd (18) put on 40 for the first wicket.

However, good bowling from Azeem Shamsi (4-29) and Nicholas Sissons (2-20) pegged Gele back to a score of just 113-9.

Josh Leach (26) and Johnny Davies (29 not out) got the school side into a good position, until Evans’ burst reduced them from 60-4 to 70-8, the innings eventually finishing 14 runs short on 100-9.

Abergele also saw themselves into the Robertsons Cup Final, beating Mochdre in the semi.

James French (51 no) and Glyn Tapp (36) batted well for Mochdre, but they were limited to 116-8.

Gele were in trouble at 44-4 before Edward Rooney (34 no) and David Williams (32 no) came together and saw the Strikers comfortably home.

Division Two saw Conwy Celts beat Lex in a tight contest.

Lex slumped to 21-5 before Trevor Taylor (21) and Tom Thornton (26) steadied the ship.

An unbeaten 20 from Matt Longley took them to a defendable 115-7, Aidan Kelly 2-7 for Celts.

In reply, Phil and Dan Davies put on 58 for the first wicket, but the Lex attack kept things very tight and the run rate rose to seven an over.

However, Sean Davies and Phil Wilson were up to the challenge. A huge six from Davies relieved the pressure as Conwy got home with three balls remaining.

Penrhyn Arms recorded their first win of the season with massive 122-run victory over Carmel.

Arms amassed 204, Dan Evans 66 no, Laurence Clair 36, Mark Nellist 35 and Bob Nellist 29.

Tight bowling from Luke Regan (3-22) and veteran Dave Evans, claiming a career-first wicket in his 1-15, left the visitors 82-7 at the end of their allotted overs.

LLANDUDNO under-11’s cricket side beat Abergele by 30 runs in their latest outing.

Tudno finished on 271-6 for a net score of 241. Luke Sellers took 2-4 for Gele.

In response, Abergele posted 240-6 net, 210, Dan Jones claiming two wickets for the winners.
