Conwy up to second after win over Tudno

CHAMPIONS Conwy A nudged up to second spot in Division A of the North Wales Coast Bowling League following last weekend’s 8-4 success at Llandudno A.

Although Tudno’s Peter Warren recorded the day’s best card of 21-7, the visitors took the spoils six games to four, and added the bonus by heading the aggregates, Colin Jones their top block on 21-11.

Leaders Abergele remain at the summit despite a 6-6 home draw with Bangor City.

The visitors edged it 6-4 on games, but Gele pulled level thanks to eight chalks superiorit­y in the team totals, Roger Griffiths prevailing 21-10 for the hosts.

Rhos Park A suffered a surprise 8-4 home reverse at the hands of Blaenau Ffestiniog, Mark Whiteley shining brightest for the losing team at 21-9.

Simon Livings starred on 21-5 as Min-y-Don whipped Llanrwst 9-3, John Bailey standing out for the visitors at 21-8.

In Division B, Conwy B overcame Rhos Park B 7-5, John Hughes at 21-2 helping ensure the Castlemen bossed the aggregates by 30 after it ended five-apiece on games. Arthur Ollerton triumphed 21-8 for the visitors.

Colwyn Bay RBL comfortabl­y saw off Mochdre Park A 10-2, Dave Roberts unstoppabl­e at 21-5 for the Legion.

Penmaenmaw­r A swept aside Benllech 9-3, Andrew Williams 21-7, Keith Williams 21-8 and it was 12-0 for Craig-y-Don against Eirias Park, Peter Mceneany 21-6 for the whitewashi­ng hosts.

New leaders Caernarfon leapfrogge­d Fron Park after dismissing their rivals 10-2.

Stan Smith led the charge with a 21-8 return as Penrhyn New Hall A recorded an 8-4 success at Prestatyn Highbury in Division C.

Vardre A were 8-4 better than Sunny Rhyl, Ian Wilson 21-7 and David Pritchard 21-8 for the home winners.

Alf Bowen (21-3) and Philip Clarke (21-6) were outstandin­g for Kinmel Bay, yet their team were defeated 8-4 at Mochdre Park B for whom Islwyn Jones was best at 21-10 in this Division D encounter.

Llandudno B went down 7-5 at Beaumaris B, Marian Bladen and Peter Rigby both 21-14 for Tudno.

Bottom team Penrhyn New Hall B enjoyed a rare victory, getting past Rhyl 8-4 despite just a three-point advantage in the aggregates. Pam Evans made her mark for the hosts with a 21-14 card.

Llanrwst B turned over Penygroes 9-3, David Parry 21-4 and Brian Williams 21-5, while Vardre B came away from Grove Park with a 6-6 verdict, Eleanor Taylor 21-7 and Marc Morris 21-9 for the travellers.
