Put on some bright colours to help on Blue Monday

Ann Owen urging people to wear something bright on Monday, January 19 - the so-called “Blue Monday” said to be the most depressing day of the year.

Her campaign to raise money for Mental Health Research U (MHRUK), which dedicated to find the causes of de sion and mental was inspired by t loss of a close frie

Ann, who runs the Prospect veterinary surgery on Abergele Road, said: “My friend Mark Robinson, who I went to veterinary college with, took his own life five years ago.

“He left behind a wife and two beautiful daughters - it was tragic.

“It was the worst thing I have ever had to deal with. He was a lovely, intelligen­t man. He could not understand why this illness had sent him into a black hole.

“We cannot understand how it persuaded him that the world would be a better place without him.”

After Mark’s death, Ann became involved with MHRUK, which is run by volunteers.

“I realised there was a big need for research in this area and nobody was researchin­g,” she said.

“This is why this campaign is vital, both to raise

this muchork and fight need to know some people depressed and ers don’t. “Like with Mark, it can take ust a second for

“I think people who haven’t had the experience probably don’t undertand. “The more we k about this d the more we arch the rea

Ann is also a trustee of the charity Mental Health Research and is asking people to pay £2 to support the national “Blooming Monday” campaign, which marks its third year this January.

A Mark Robinson PhD Bursary funds research into mental health and so far £120,000 has been raised to that end.
