Great British Views
We won’t be visiting for a while, but these lovely scenes can still gladden our hearts
Even though most of us won’t be travelling any time soon, we still have plenty of spectacular views here in the UK that we can admire. From beaches to mountains, there are stunning British sights aplenty for us to feast our eyes on.
The Lake District is top of the list when it comes to naming a place with breathtaking views. Famous for its lakes and forests, this region of Cumbria has a wide range of scenery for all to gaze at.
Popular spots within the Lake District include Lake Windermere, which is the largest natural lake in England and one of the most beautiful. With a length of around 18km, you can cruise along the lake while breathing in the fresh country air, all while enjoying stunning English countryside as your backdrop.
The area is also filled with amazing forests, with many walking and cycling trails to enjoy. One woodland hotspot is Whinlatter Forest, which is England’s only mountain forest. The area is home to vast amounts of rare wildlife including the Bassenthwaite Ospreys, whose nesting place can be observed from various outdoor viewpoints.
The Lake District has many famous admirers including writers John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. Spending her childhood holidays in the Lake District, the creator of PeterRabbit and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle was inspired by the gorgeous landscape. She went on to buy a home named Hill Top, which is only a short distance from the
Lake District National Park. It is said that she wrote many of her famous stories in this home and would spend as much time there as possible, enjoying the magnificent scenery.
The Lake District was also popular among poets including William
Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge who both lived there. In fact so many poets were inspired by the land and relocated there, that they were collectively named The Lake Poets.
The Lake District’s picturesque views are most striking during the springtime. With flowers beginning to bloom and newborn lambs roaming the neighbouring fields, the landscape truly encapsulates the beauties of the British outdoors.
