PRAGA UNVEILS ALL-NEW R1 CAR AND TARGETS A ONE-MAKE SERIES
All-carbon racer with 2021 dedicated Britcar class is revealed with “practically every part updated”
Praga has unveiled its upgraded high-performance R1 that has its own class in 2021’s Britcar endurance championship and is set for its own racing series in 2022.
The new R1 succeeds the Praga that last season, run by VR Motorsport, won seven Britcar races from nine plus the title.
The latest lightweight machine, with every body panel new, boasts 15% more downforce and five per cent less drag than its predecessor plus a 50% larger fuel tank.
Engine management software, electronics, front lights plus in-car controls and adjustments are also improved. Its turbocharged two-litre Renault engine produces 365bhp.
Praga’s engineering director Jan Martinek said: “Make no mistake, practically every part of the car has been updated or refined to offer drivers the best possible feel.”
This year up to 12 Pragas will compete in Britcar’s first dedicated Praga category. The first new R1s are now being delivered to UK customers via VR Motorsport.
Praga Cars UK MD Mark Harrison described the R1 as: “dramatic and exciting, accessible, easy to own and run, and dramatic to watch. It is perfect for team owners, novice drivers looking to experience downforce, experienced racers looking to step into LMP-style racing and, importantly, sponsors.”
Drivers signed up to race Pragas in Britcar this year include British GT4 titlecontender Chris ‘Chippy’ Wesemael, who will compete with his own CW Performance team alongside Sports 1000 frontrunner Richard Morris, as well as Charlie Martin, Britcar race-winner Jack Fabby, ex-SAS soldier Jay Morton and Fun Cup graduate twins Chris and Ed Bridle.
