Speedworks son to race Caterham
Former Ministox racer Tom Grensinger will graduate to circuit racing this season with a season in the Caterham Academy in a drive funded by track day organiser Bookatrack.com.
Grensinger, son of BTCC team Speedworks Motorsport owner Christian Dick, has spent two seasons in Ministox but has now hit the retirement age of 16. After considering Stock Rods or Saloon Stock Cars as the next step, a day at Blyton Park changed Grensinger’s ambition.
“It was great to be on a circuit with left and right handers,” he explained. “Ministox has been great and I have learnt a lot but a long circuit is so much more rewarding.
“We have known the Bookatrack guys for a while, and my mum has worked for them, so we have a relationship and they are keen to promote themselves through the Academy. They asked if I was interested in a season of racing and it took me a split-second to decide!”
“This is very much Tom and Bookatrack’s project,” explained Dick. “It isn’t a Speedworks entry but I’ll be pleased to offer what help and support I can. There are a couple of BTCC clashes but I’ll be there when I can, cheering him on.”
The Caterham Academy begins on April 22 with a sprint at Aintree, while the first circuit race will take place at Brands Hatch on June 4.

But one full racing meeting will take place at the circuit this year, with the CTCRC heading to Lydden for a one-day meeting on August 12 with a full programme of events for Classic, Historic, Group One and Production Touring Cars, as well as Blue Oval and Thundersaloons and rounds of the Classic VW, Smart 4Two Cup and VTEC Challenge.
In addition to that, a Trucksport UK event is scheduled to take place the weekend prior to the CTCRC meeting, although no racing will take place.
Circuit director Pauline Gevaux said: “We are delighted to have motor racing back at Lydden. We hope to have even more events next year.”
Silhouette saloon stalwart Robert Knox is attempting to boost the CTCRC grids for the Lydden rounds, with several former SEMSEC (South East Motor Sport Enthusiasts’ Club) members – including former saloon champion Bill Richards – having expressed interest in taking part.
