Ogri – the biker’s biker!

-

Renowned artist and mad keen biker Paul Sample created his iconic biker comic strip ‘Ogri’ around 1967.

The first-ever Ogri strip published appeared in Chopper magazine in 1972 and later Ogri appeared in Bike Magazine later in that year, a collaboration which lasted almost 40 years. Ogri also later appeared in the Daily Telegraph and became a full motion cartoon.

Looking at our Ogri tells you all you need to know… biker jacket; spanner hanging out the back pocket of his jeans to maintain his trusty Norvin; stubble on that square jaw and a mis-shaped nose from the odd dust-up or two; and he likes nothing better than a bottle (or four) of Newcastle Brown. He’s a biker’s biker: not afraid of anyone, impervious to rain and blessed with an utter hatred of conformity, the establishment, and with a healthy disrespect for those elements of the law that think they know best.

Friends were a select few. Malcolm (a perennially spotty, slightlybuilt fellow who tended to get things wrong); Kickstart, his faithful white dog; and, of course, there is Mitzi – she may ride in a basque and stockings (Health and Safety would have a field day) and while the feminists amongst us would be utterly disgusted, suffice to say Mitzi can ride a bike well and is nobody’s fool!

If you know and love Ogri then you really need to get hold of ‘Ogri – Everybody’s Favourite’. This is a beautifully produced collection of 150 comic strips costing just £24.99 and is available from: www.ogri-book.co.uk
