International break brings injury worry for Reds trio

- By DANIEL MURPHY

MARCUS Rashford has withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, while Luke Shaw has not yet reported for duty.

The United pair were set to join team-mate Harry Maguire in Gareth Southgate’s squad, but did not meet up with the rest of the team yesterday.

Rashford, who has only recently returned from injury after undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer, will remain in Manchester to concentrate on regaining full fitness.

It is understood the forward came down with a bout of illness last week that saw him miss training on Thursday and Friday ahead of Saturday’s derby.

Shaw, meanwhile, had to be substituted in the 73rd minute against City after suffering a blow to the head.

While he hasn’t yet dropped out of the England squad completely, he is following concussion protocols with United and will continue to be monitored to see if he can join up with the squad at a later date.

The Three Lions will be hoping to seal qualification for the 2022 World Cup when they take on Albania on Friday at Wembley before then travelling to face San Marino on Monday, November 15.

Meanwhile, Paul Pogba withdrew from training with France yesterday after appearing to suffer a thigh injury.

The Reds midfielder, who missed the derby through suspension, looks doubtful to be involved in his country’s games against Kazakhstan and Finland after he limped out of the session.

In a video released by French publication RMC Sport, Pogba can be heard loudly shouting in pain after hitting a right-footed shot on the bounce and immediately clutching his right thigh.

He then appeared to bend over in pain as a coach checked on him before then limping off the pitch and into a waiting car.
