Injury worries for Ole ahead of Anfield trip

- By DOMINIC BOOTH

UNITED’S win over Burnley was tainted by late injuries to Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic.

The Reds travel to Anfield for a vital top-of-the-table encounter against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday, looking to stretch their three-point gap at the Premier League’s summit. That lead was clinched by a 1-0 victory at Burnley on Tuesday night, secured by

Paul Pogba’s volleyed second-half strike.

But the hard-fought win at Turf Moor may have cost United one or two casualties.

Martial hobbled off in stoppage time with an apparent hamstring injury and was replaced by Axel Tuanzebe.

Matic also went down in added time at Burnley with what seemed to be a groin problem, though played on until the end.

Victor Lindelof missed the game as he continues to suffer with a back problem.

The Swede has only played in two of United’s last seven games.

Eric Bailly played in central defence with Harry Maguire and impressed, despite taking a knock himself in the FA Cup win over Watford at the weekend.

“He wanted to play, he was ready, he came through (training), he didn’t do everything but he was okay. Victor had a little reaction so we left him back,” Solskjaer said of Bailly’s selection and Lindelof’s absence.

Liverpool look set to have defensive problems of their own going into the game.

Virgil van Dijk remains sidelined with his long-term injury, along with

Joe Gomez, while Joel Matip remains a doubt for the game on Merseyside.
